syd's hair

Welcome to my room. Although here you see Karalyn's half. This was the morning of Mothers day. I was doing Syd's hair and Karalyn, her nails. Please disregard my appearance. I hadn't gotten ready yet. Obviously.

This is the finished product. Everyone ooh's and aah's over it and that's why she wanted it done that way for mike. the end.

memorial day weekend!

oooook.
to start, my niece Sydney will be 3 in July.
Friday after work, I came home and ate dinner as fast as I could so I could shower before Mike came over. I had volunteered us to babysit Sydney and Holly while everyone else when to the Desert Chorale Memorial Day Concert. Sydney had been looking forward to Mike's "coming to play" since Monday night, and that's a long time for a little kid. She is absolutely in love with him... and I'm not kidding. When I asked her why she liked him so much she said, "because he's so handsome!" What the heck! where did she get that?! Anyways, Friday after I got out of the shower, and before I got myself ready, I asked her if she wanted me to do her hair in pretty braids for mike, and she said, "no! in curls!" (imagine a little blond head full of ringlets... I'll get a picture if I can) which is how I did her hair for mothers day... good heavens. So Syd was all cute when Mike got there... me? not so much. oh well. While I got ready, Syd fed Mike every piece of plastic food we own, (which is a lot...) and I think Mike was ready to be done babysitting in the 15 min. it took me to finish getting ready. So... Sydney and I had to have some "chill time." After that, we made "fruit shakes" and then got Syd ready for bed. Mike fell asleep while we read scripture stories and missed Syd saying, "I'm going to hold on to the iron rod with my mommy and daddy." It was pretty cute. Then we sang some songs and headed up the stairs to bed. Once we were in bed, Syd had me sing a couple more songs and tell her a secret (family tradition, don't know why) and her "secret" to me was a tenderly whispered, "jojo, thank you for the delicious shake," which was at least half an hour before hand and totally random. Let me tell you, when your not-even-3-yr-old niece thanks you like that, you feel about ready to do anything for that kid. After that, the family got home from the concert, and we had devotional which lasted something close to 45 minutes... ridiculous. Then Mike and I met Cj and his brother for some bowling. Good times... good times...
Saturday, I went swimming at my cousins house and sunburned my shoulders pretty bad while playing volleyball. I think my right shoulder is bruised from carrying my purse on top of my sunburn... don't' quite know... feels like it though. When we got home, we all slept for something like 2 hours. I mean, you get wasted after being in the sun from 11-2. (As wasted as a nice little mormon girl like me can get, right?) Mike and I had planned to go see Pirates that night, but Hayley and Bo, (who are our right hands when it comes to hanging out) were out of town for the weekend, and no one else wanted to go. So we didn't. Mike was gonna go skateboarding, but I saved him by inviting him over to watch a Hitchcock movie with the Fam. He didn't last long, but there you have it.
Sunday: Don't you love it when two young married women in the ward stop you after sacrament meeting to ask how your freshman year was at BYU and you end up talking for ten minutes and you are therefore late to gospel doctrine (GD) and your family couldn't save you a seat because, well, it's just too hard. You therefore end up sitting between a)a woman who produces a ton of extra heat in an already hot room and b)the one women who has been in the ward since before you were born and knows your entire life history and really is the sweetest woman in the world, but you just don't have a very high tolerance level for her and she makes all of G.D. 100% awkward by whispering her opinion on everything to me and wonders if I agree with her which of course, I don't. But can I say that? no, so I end up nodding and smiling at whatever she's talking about while trying to keep my own body temperature down and pick up something spiritually enlightening from the lesson. When that is finally over, my brother leaves for priesthood, mom leaves for YW (she's the beehive advisor), the awkward lady leaves for YW's because she is the camp director, Liz leaves to feed Holly, and the heated woman leaves to go to the bathroom being sure to let me know she'll be right back. Needless to say, I move forward a row to where Liz had been sitting so I can sit by her when she gets back and another girl just older than me comes to sit by me and we start talking about where I am going to live next fall. A 100% innocent topic except for that my already bugged attitude brings up who else is living in the same building as I am next fall and we both begin discussing annoyances with those people and then we turn on the awkward one I was sitting next to in GD when the heated one comes back and exclaims "oh, you left me." UGH! How do you respond to that? "It's not that I didn't want to feel your radiating body heat anymore, honestly, I just wanted to sit by this empty seat that is really for my sister-in-law once she comes back from nursing my niece." And then the lesson starts... And can you imagine what the topic is? Watching what you say to and about others... blah blah blah... Thanks a ton, I've screwed my day, well done Julina. (hence why I didn't return your text mike.) I honestly think Heavenly Father wanted to give me a little slap upside the head to remind me how hurtful some of the things I say can sometimes be. Well, I got it and choked down my slice of humble pie. And Liz ended up sitting somewhere totally different, so my excuse would have been lame anyways. Sunday dinner was delicious. Thanks mom.
Monday I woke up at 8:30-ish to watch Holly while Liz went to the gym and everyone else was gone. (except for Kare, she was in bed til 10:45. go her) I started to make caramel brownies which are quite possibly the most fantastic things ever created while holly chilled in her bouncy chair. I had to stop and coo at her every once in a while to make sure she stayed happy, but all in all it went well. When everyone got home, we had to company clean the house so we could leave for a picnic. (Why is that? that mom's feel the need to make sure the house is clean when no one is going to be there? I mean, I guess theoretically if we all died, it would look better to have a clean house for people to clean out... but what are the chances of that?) The picnic at Spring Valley Ranch was great and wonderful though more for Sydney than anyone else. When we got home, we watched Great Expectations, (which, if the movie is anything like the book is crap. I guess I'll have to read it to find out.) while Syd took her nap. After that, we went to my grandma's for swimming and a bbq which was great and tasty.
This is already too long and it's past 10... how I go for this long is beyond me, but I hope that those of you who got this far were not bored out of their minds... congratulations you made it to the end. The End.

a trip to the dentist

Preface
Here is an apology to all those who are not as fortunate as I.
I am so sorry.

and yet again... I am awesome. It's that simple. I have never had a cavity, and today I still don't. How great is that?! Anyways, some people have a huge fear of the dentist, but I've always assumed those people to have bad teeth. And this is why; If you've never had a bad experience there, why would you fear it? And why would you have a bad experience if you had good teeth? See how that all works out? And then there are those, (such as myself,) who have had a bad experience, and still are the utmost icon of bravery.

Now, I know I am dooming myself to a world of people staring at my front tooth, but if you've never noticed, it is chipped... fixed, but chipped all the same. And you can tell because it is ever so slightly discolored. So here's the story behind it. Once upon a time, before Julina knew she was allergic to cats, she asked for one for Christmas. She got a bike instead. Christmas day, Julina went out to learn how to ride that bike at Gene Ward Elementary school. Julina ran into a pole. Twice. The second time, she chipped half her front tooth off and had to get it fixed at the dentist. Julina has since re-chipped her front tooth on a wooden rocking horse, a mike-and-ike(?), another pole, and Karalyn's forehead. Each time, the dentist has nicely put me back together again. Now, if you ever ask to see it, I will politely answer, 'no,' so let's all save ourselves some awkwardness and avoid doing so. (at best, you can try and steal yourself a look when someone tells a really funny joke and I'm laughing or something.) Basically, the dilemma here is whether I should leave it as is, (except re-doing it to fix the color issue,) or should I cap it? I've heard caps can sometimes give people issues because of sensitive gums, but that's like a one-in-a million chance... something like that. But then again, if I leave it as it is, it will need to be replaced every few years to keep it looking good. Or I can let it look however it wants to. forever. And let's face it, I won't be on my parents insurance forever. They're willing to pay whatever, just as long as I'm happy with it. (great parents, aren't they?) (also, I didn't even bring up my teeth, changing it was all my mom's idea... kinda makes me wonder if she thinks it looks bad or something...) So, anyone with any advise/experience/preferences on the subject?

Now I'm off to the grocery store. I'm making dinner tonight. Broccoli potato cheese soup. Easy, but SO good. ok! wonderful! bye!

ah... new post

k, so if this is really lame, I apologize in advance. But since my last blog was something like three weeks ago, and since I've been pressured to update from all sides, here it is.

well, where to start. Monday, Mike told me that he was working at the Silver State branch directly across the street from where my office is and since that never happens, we went to lunch. At panda express. basically because that's the only fast food place I know of down there. (I bring lunch from home. in a brown paper bag.) And what's weird is that Brenda (co-worker) noticed I was all "smiley" when I got back... How does that even happen? Well Mike, don't think so highly of yourself. Monday night was the Bachelor finale, which I watched over at Sarah's house (Mike's sister)... naturally, I was happy with the turnout. If he had chosen Bevin, I would have been seriously bugged. Also, to all of you who were in attendance there and still don't get the joke about mike's biggest temptation... it really wasn't caffeine. Ask Daniel, I'm pretty sure he got it. maybe.

Today was the SLOWEST day at work. I don't know how it happens that some days fly by (...as quickly as filing jobs can,) and other days I am looking at the clock ever 27 seconds. It's kind of getting a little ridiculous. BUT I'M NOT COMPLAINING! It's a full time job, (which is what I wanted, because I blew my savings on MaryKay) and all of the people I work with are really nice. -(Especially Annette, who, for some reason, calls me monkey... don't know how that all came about... but she's in Hawaii for the week and she keeps calling us. I think it's just to rub it in that we're not there...)- AND everyone pretty much thinks I'm amazing because they've had unproductive and inconsistent filers in the past who apparently sat in the back room text messaging all day... I never do that... ever. And I'm still way more productive than they were. so go me.

Ok, so I just realized how rediculously tired I am, so I'm gonna go for now, but here is an update... hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon enough. OH! and as soon as I figure out how to upload pictures to my home computer (vs. my laptop) I'll post some.

I'm home... incase you missed the memo

why is it that my summer VACATION is starting out more exhausting than my freshman year at college?! Tell me, how does that work out? Well I got home Wednesday night, and started work Thursday morning at a Dr. Joseph Johnson's office. He's a regular "go get a check up" doctor... and I file for him. Let me tell you, it is an exhilarating job full of surprises and laughter... (please note the sarcasm). Actually, for being a file clerk, it's not really that bad. I got the job through the office manager there, Terry Romans, who is a good friend of Kathy Brunson, who has been my mom's best friend for 20 years.

side note here: today I found out that Terry went to a baptism (I'm assuming it was Sydney's) where Beth Garrard spoke (wonderfully, from what I hear) and after a conversation with Kathy Brunson about it all, she somehow found out about Mike and I. Odd how random people find out about things like that.

I work with 4 of the most helpful, genuine, helpful, hilarious, helpful, Hispanic girls I have ever met in my life. They are Great!! Two of them are the nurses, and the other two work in the front office checking people in and out and whatnot. I have never felt more comfortable in a new environment. Whenever I have a question, and trust me, I have about a thousand a day, they are more than willing to do whatever they can. They've even caught it before I ask when they see the foreboding look of confusion as I stare at a piece of paper that I've never seen before. They're really great. There's also Renee who doesn't say much, but is quick to laugh and is really nice, and the other lady who works in the back room who's name I can't remember, but she calls people and tells them their lab results... a real fun job I can imagine.

I've seen people come in for drug, vision, and hearing tests, which are always fun to watch while Annett (one of the nurses) makes fun of them (they don't know it). Also, I stuffed about 400 envelopes full of bills... good to know I'm making 400 people's day suck a little more. And they have this machine, which is amazing, that you put money in (via phone order), and it prints stamps on to envelopes when you run them through. Kiiinda complicated, I've never seen one before, but they're the coolest thing ever. I'm glad I got to sit there running envelopes through it for about an hour. ALSO! I got 4 new paper cuts doing all of this delightful envelope stuffing. good times. Funny thing happened too, I asked Renee for a band aid, and she said she'd check if they had some. As she walked out, I said (more to myself than anyone else) "it's a doctor's office, you'd think they have band aids..." and I heard her laughing all the way down the hall. That was good, I mean, at least I know she's not way serious all the time.

So I've bought some scrubs. I couldn't stand wearing professional office attire, including nice shoes (which I did the first day) and I figured, if I wear scrubs, I can at least wear tennis-shoes. So it was off to Wal-Mart, and I got myself some hot pink scrubs. And they really are hot pink. They're pretty great. And today, my Dad came home with some nicer ones from a scrub store. It was pretty cute watching his reaction when I said I liked the pattern he picked out.

Also, I lost my cell phone last Saturday night, so to anyone who tried to call, sorry, I still love you, I'm not ignoring you, it was just lost. It turns out that the Flaggs have it, so I'll get it back asap.

Also Saturday evening, Nate and Stacy envited Mike and I over for dinner and games. That was really fun and the food was delicious, ESPECIALLY after living off of Cannon Center meals for the past few months, so Thanks for that (Nate, great steaks, you should grill a lot more often from now on). And Zoee really is adorable. During part of dinner/part of games, she sat lounging on her little couch watching a baby einstien dvd. When she started warming up to me a little, she laughed a lot more which was really cute.

My dad is kicking me off... I'm so not used to having hours like this, but oh well. More later!
