Halloween costumes

So here are some post-party photos with Mary and Kelly. Alli didn't dress up with us. Mary and I made our dresses and Kelly found her's at DI and made some slight modifications.
The story is that we're dead housewives. The idea was slightly inspired from Desperate Housewives, but really, we happened to find the dress pattern at Joanns and thought it would be a fun idea. Mary died from a slit throat, I died from being strangled and Kelly died from a shot to the head. Morbid, I know, but it's HALLOWEEN. It's lame sauce if you're an "angel" or "cowgirl." Unless you're under the age of 8. Then it's great. I got my apron at FlirtyAprons.com and it's called "sassy black." How could I not buy it? Anyways, I'll post more picture from the actual party a little later because I couldn't find my camera during the party and I have to get them from friends. Also, I can't get this to not be underlined... So... Until then,

Mary, me and Kelly

Me with our no-bake spiders, Mary with our peanut butter cookie eyeballs and the Cauldren cookie/caramel rice crispy treats and Kelly with the tombstone brownies.
Us looking dead ish...
Solo shot...
Me showing my strangled neck. And crying. (totally fake)
And then, Alli wanted to try putting a post-it over the flash becuase she said it would turn the picture colors. This is an orange post it picture. kinda neat.

ok... Here goes nothing.

So, Nate Davis and I went on a fun group date. We carved pumpkins at our apartment and frosted halloween cookies. It was fun.

Here's Mary and Andrew.
Kelly and Brett
Allie and McKay

Nathan and I- "N8"

"Julina"

And here's the last decent shot of my hair.

The next night and 10 inches later...

And then we convinced Kare to do it too...
So. What do you think? I have never had short hair in my whole life. Ever. Seriously, the shortest it's ever been is somewhere around 2 inches below my shoulders (5 inches longer than what it is now). So, Kare and I sent our hair home to mom and dad in bubble envelopes. THEY DON'T KNOW ITS CUT SO DON'T SAY ANYTHING TO THEM THIS WEEK!! WAIT!! And Thanks to Kelsey Day for the Sass cuts.

What other proof do you need?!

Ok, try telling me that's not the best looking pie you've ever seen. Look at those 6 beautiful layers?! And that was my very first homemade pie crust. It was so flaky and delicious, not over-handled at all... ok, you have to try it.

Please excuse the Styrofoam plate with the remnants of Benn's enchiladas. We're college students being thrifty.

Best Pie Ever!

K, so here is my recipe from last week. My kitchen definitely had the best food item. If you don't try it, you're seriously missing out. MAKE IT! It's actually probably the only one worth making...

Black-Bottom Cherry Cream Cheese Pie

Note: This pie has a standard pastry crust with an oreo crust on top of it (black-bottom). After cooling, it is then filled with the cream chesse filling and topped with cherries, whipped cream and oreo crumbs.

1 (15 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/3 c. freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 can cherry pie filling

standard pastry (below)

Oreo crumb crust (below)

1/2 cup whipping cream

2 T. sugar

Standard Pastry

1 ½ C. flour

1 tsp. salt

1/2 C. + 2 Tbsp. shortening

3 to 5 Tbsp. ice cold water water

1. Stir flour, then spoon lightly into measuring cup. Level.

2. Place flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir together.

3. Measure shortening and use pastry blender to cut the shortening into the flour until rice-like.

4. Sprinkle in water 1 Tbsp. at a time, mixing with your rubber scraper or a large spoon until flour is moistened, and dough almost cleans the sides of the bowl. (The less you handle it, the flakier the crust will be.)

5. Gather dough into a ball. Flatten on a lightly floured board, and roll into a large, even circle. Put in 9” glass pie pan, crimp edges and poke with fork.

6. Bake at 450°. Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Oreo Crumb Crust

1 cup finely crushed Oreo cookie crumbs

3 Tbsp. sugar

¼ cup butter, melted

1. Combine cookie crumbs and sugar. Add butter; blend until all crumbs are evenly moist.

2. Pat ¾ of the mixture over the bottom of a single-crust baked 9-inch pie crust.

3. Use the remaining ¼ of the mixture to sprinkle on the whipped cream at serving.

Filling

1. Soften cream cheese and beat until fluffy.

2. Add milk, slowly, while beating. Add lemon juice, vanilla and beat well.

3. Pour into crust. Chill and then top with cherry pie filling.

To serve: Whip the whipping cream and gradually add 2 Tbsp. sugar. Top each slice of pie with whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumbs.
